The Top Bathroom Design Trends For 2018
Bathroom design trends for 2018.

In recent years the bathroom has become much more than just a room in which to shower or take a bath. Much as the kitchen has changed from simply somewhere to cook and do the washing up and has evolved into a room where we eat and entertain guests, so the bathroom has today become somewhere to relax and wind down after a hard day at the office – or even a hard day’s gardening in the yard.

Many homeowners take inspiration from those glossy magazines which depict the bathroom as a huge space with double tubs, walk-in shower, marble flooring, his and hers vanities, and high end bathroom cabinetry in West Palm Beach. However, in reality the trend in 2018 is for smaller bathrooms, which in turn means that it is vital to make good use of every last square inch of space.

The free-standing tub is still fashionable, but for one person rather than two. However, the use of his and hers vanities is still popular because of the need for two people to share the bathroom in the morning before rushing off on the commute. Your vanity area usually contains high end bathroom cabinetry in West Palm Beach with a sink, faucet, and hardware. Of course, you also have the mirrors and here is where some imaginative lighting can make a difference. You need lighting that lights up your face when shaving or putting on make-up so it needs to be bright, but the trend is to employ a dimmer switch so that it can be turned down when you take that all-important relaxing half hour in the tub after work.

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating systems are also being installed in more 2018 bathrooms. These make a huge difference as opposed to stepping onto a cold tile floor. They can also be used under vinyl, polished concrete, or wood flooring.

Smaller bathrooms are also leading to lighter colors being used on walls and floors. Light is better reflected, making the small room look bigger than it really is. Light gray is being used widely for walls and paintwork, as is light blue. As for tiles, the herringbone pattern is becoming a huge trend in 2018. You can use it on walls and floors, and the tiles can be plain or colored, or you can even mix the hues for that extra “wow” factor.

Other trends are adding things such as music systems, TV’s, and small fridges in the cabinetry to hold drinks and medicines. Brass or gold-plated faucets and hardware are making a comeback, and complement the gray and light blue tones perfectly.

One other thing that is becoming popular is the high tech toilet. The Japanese have had these for years, but today we are seeing toilets installed with heated seats, automatic lid opening and closing, adjustable washers and driers (say goodbye to toilet paper), and – would you believe – toilets that play music when the lid opens and switch off when it closes.
